Modeling Humanizing Education Through Newly Reviewed Materials Engineering Curriculum

In line with the current global focus on sustainability and well-being of planet, becoming a professional engineer nowadays requires more than simple mastery technical skills. Considering that engineers are required to have deep sense responsibility not only for humankind but also environment, engineering education practices must be reformed substantially prepare will contribute sustainable development. This necessitates updating conventional programs (CEE) incorporate Humanizing Engineering Education (HEE). Although HEE is an old practice individual other organizations outside academic field, it relatively new in engineering. While definition what truly merits being considered remains debatable, many believe their work involves humanitarian aspect. To streamline development HEE, there need developing guidelines frameworks comprehensive model. Ideally, framework should integrate humanizing pedagogy curriculum design. The objective paper share experience authors designing Materials Programme (MEP) embedded Humanitarian (HE), which among main elements HEE. Data collection was through interviews, qualitative surveys, reports from stakeholders, accreditation bodies benchmarking Higher Learning Institutions (HLI). An extensive scholarly literature review executed identify shortcomings CEE how could by integrating Sejahtera Academic Framework (SAF); strategic programmes developed university, used as reference customize MEP better meet students’ needs. Since proposed model applies emerging concept, inevitably raises challenges related different levels understanding course implementers perceptions external stakeholders. Moreover, developers had consider limitations imposed university's policies structures while acknowledging availability finite resources (i.e. time, money, equipment, expertise).
